‘Share to Classroom’ is a Google extension that allows you to take a website on your computer and instantly share it with all of your students’ computers. If you are unfamiliar with extensions, read more about them here. **You must use Google Chrome as your web browser to use
extensions.**
There are a few things to do prior to using the extension, but set it up one time and you and your students will be ready to share for the rest of the year!
See how it works. (Must use an iBaldwin account to view this video.)
Before You Set Up the Extension
Before we go install the extension, you will want to go create a Google Classroom for your class. Go to classroom.google.com and use the ‘+’ symbol in the top right corner to create a class.
Get the Extension
Both you and your students will need to add the extension. To add it to your teacher computer using Google Chrome:
1.) Open a new window in Chrome. In the top left corner, click the button that says ‘Apps.’
2.) Select ‘Web Store.’
3.) If you are logged into Chrome with your @ibaldwin.org Google account, you will see a folder on the left that says ‘for ibaldwin.org.’ Click this folder. If you are not logged into your @ibaldwin.org Google account, you can log in or type ‘Share to Classroom’ in the extension search bar.
4.) You should see an extension called ‘Share to Classroom.’ Click this, then ‘Add to Chrome.’ You’ll be prompted to give permission, click ‘allow.’
5.) You will see the Share to Classroom icon added to the top of your Chrome browser. Click it and you will be prompted to give permission to connect the extension to your Google Classroom account.
To add the ‘Share to Classroom’ extension to your students’ Chromebooks:
1.) Click the circle launcher button in the bottom left corner
2.) From the launcher menu, select ‘web store.’
3.) Students can only see the ‘for ibaldwin.org’ folder. From here, follow the same steps you did to add the extension. They do not need to sign in or connect their account to the extension like you did.
Use the extension
1.) Go to a website that you want your students to be on as well.
2.) Click the Share to Classroom extension and select your class.
3.) Click ‘Push.’
4.) Now the website will automatically appear on students’ computers. The students do not need to do anything except have their computers open and on.
