Extensions are like mini-programs that run on Chrome within websites to help enhance the usability of the website. There are extensions to quickly share content, save websites, block ads, and many, many others. There will be some extension available for students to download on their Chromebooks, but teachers have a little more freedom on which extensions they would like.
How to download extensions:
1.) You can open the Chrome Web Store by clicking the ‘Apps’ shortcut button at the top left-hand corner of the Chrome browser.
2.) A list of all of the apps you have downloaded will appear. Select the option for the ‘Web
Store.’
3.) Once the Web Store has opened, you can browse extensions by selecting the ‘Extensions’ tab on the left. Or, if you know what extension you are looking for, you can perform a search. If you’re browsing, you can also filter your search by category or some other characteristics that you can specify.
4.) Once you have found the extension that you want, click on it to open an information window.
5.) You will be asked to confirm that you would like to add the extension. Once it has been added, you will see it in the corner of your screen along with a confirmation window that your extension has been added.
**Please note that extensions are developed by many different companies, not just Google. There may be some that require a login or that may crash or be removed from the Web Store for no reason. Please keep this in mind when choosing apps and extensions. Every extension works differently, you will need to click on the icon and try it out to make sure it does what you need it to.
