Midterm and Final (Semester) test set up (X1, X2, X3, X4)

PowerTeaher Pro sets the mid term and final, also called Semester test, based on dates. Grades entered in a teachers gradebook on these dates will be used as the grade for midterms or finals depending on the time of year. These tests are denoted by the letter "X." All teachers at the secondary level should have at least an X1 and an X2. Some classes will have an X3 and an X4. In all these cases the setting for X in the traditional grade calculations should be Total Points 100%

Teachers with year long classes are the standard and it's what most people see. They have and X1 in December and and X2 in May. For those teachers that teach a half credit class that only lasts a semester, they will see X1 in October and X2 in December. They will also see X3 in March and X4 in May.

For a year long class teachers will see the following dates for X1 and X2

X1 12/15/2022 and 12/16/2022

X2 5/23/2023 and 5/24/2023 

For a semester long class teachers will see the following dates for X1, X2, X3 and X4. (They won't see X3 and X4 in the same class as X1 and X2 just like they won't see Q3 and Q4 in the same class because they are separate classes.)

X1 10/5/2022 and 10/6/2022

X2 12/15/2022 and 12/16/2022

X3 3/9/2023 and 3/10/2023

X4 5/23/2023 and 5/24/2023

All a teacher needs to do to enter an exam is to create and assignment and give it a due date that matches one of the above for the corresponding exam. Any grade entered into an assignment with the listed dates will automatically be a midterm or final exam. The category doesn't matter but it's suggested teachers use the Formative/Summative Category. 

Teachers need to be exceptionally careful not to use these due dates on any other assignments or else PowerTeacher Pro will count that grade as part of the midterm or final. 

Example 1: Middle School Math teacher at the end of Semester 1.

1st semester test (midterm) dated 12/16/2021 will be entered into the Traditional Grade Calculations as X1. As long as no other grade has a due date of 12/16 or 12/17 then the grade will be the only grade used for X1.

Example 2: High school Health teacher at the end of Semester 1.

Midterm test dated 10/7/2021 will be entered into the Traditional Grade Calculations as X1. As long as no other grade has a due date of 10/6 or 10/7 then the grade will be the only grade used for X1. Final test dated 12/16/2021 will be entered into the Traditional Grade Calculations as X2. As long as no other grade has a due date of 12/16 or 12/17 then the grade will be the only grade used for X1.
