Explanation of Wireless Printing
There are three forms of wireless communication that printers use:
- Network Connected Wireless- This requires the printer to be connected to the BCBE Wireless network, e.g. BCBOE-1. We do not allow wireless printing through the BCBE network. If the printer is being used for faculty workrooms or common areas, please work with BCBE IT Staff on the availability of adding the device to the network via hardwired connection. We limit the number of network connected printers to provide robust availability for the student and admin devices. In addition, there could be a cost for adding a network drop if there is not one available.
- Wi-Fi Direct- This requires the printer to setup its own wireless SSID and the user connects to that SSID and prints to the printer. During which however, the user disconnects from the BCBE wireless SSID to print to the printer. We do not allow Wi-Fi Direct access because it interferes with our BCBE wireless signals. Also, it disconnects the machine from the BCBE wireless while printing. If your printer has Wi-Fi functionality, we ask that you turn off the feature.
- Bluetooth Wireless- This requires a direct line of site wireless Bluetooth connection to the printer. This method would the preferred method to limit the interference with the BCBE wireless network.
