To properly store grades, an X must be placed in TWO PLACES when entering Final Exam Exemptions in your gradebook. Otherwise, a “blank grade” error will occur when the registrar stores the grades.
Open your gradebook, select X2 (X4 for semester length courses), and the class for which you wish to enter grades.
Click on A+ GRADING and select SCORESHEET.
(NOTE: At this point, the ONLY activity you should see is the Final Exam.
FIRST PLACE AN X MUST BE ENTERED
For each student with a final exam exemption:
- Next to the student’s name, click on the blanks (-- --) in the GRADE column.
- When the number pad shows up, click on the CODES button to the right, select the X. (If you just type an X it will not work. You must select it from the drop down list.) The top grade box will have an X and the bottom percentage box will show 0%. (This is OK! Exempt/purple grades do NOT impact student averages.)
- Hit SAVE and you should n0w see a purple X and 0% have replaced the blanks (-- --).
- Make sure you also click the Exempt button that has the slash above it.
SECOND PLACE AN X MUST BE ENTERED
- Now repeat the above steps for the next column (FINAL EXAM activity column).
- Make sure you also click the Exempt button that has the slash above it.
Note: For those who use Schoology for the final exam, this step is done for you if you enter an X as the grade in Schoology and sync your grades.
Now, you should see an X 0% in the GRADE column AND an X in the FINAL EXAM column.
