How does a school dispose of old computers, printers, televisions, or other electronic equipment?

Disposal of Computers

Any computer that is no longer used will be disposed of by the Education Technology Department.  Open a support ticket as needed for these items.  

*Larger quantities for disposal (an old computer lab, for example) may be stored on campus, and then collected during a county wide scheduled disposal - typically in the early Fall of each school year.

Disposal of Electronic Devices (not computers) with Data Storage 

Any device that has data storage (a copier with a hard drive, for example) must be handled carefully at the time of disposal.  Data deletion is required prior to disposal.  Have your Building and Grounds Manager discuss with your local trash vendor as to how to properly dispose of these devices.  For larger lots, open a SchoolDude Maintenance support ticket with the Maintenance Department.

Disposal of Other Items

• For small quantities or smaller items, arrange for disposal by your local trash vendor.  Check with your trash collection provider (varies from school to school) to see if there are any special rules regarding disposal of electronics in your landfill.

Donating Items to Non-BCBE Entities

Board approval is required before donating items to non-BCBE entities. 

*Transfer to another school does not require board approval.

NOTE - If the equipment is not a computer, but has a BCBE asset tag, then the school needs to contact Steve Rockwell at the Central Office so that he can remove them from his inventory.
